7 tips to stay motivated during summer – 2020 edition

Staying motivated during summer can be puzzling for anyone. And now that summer is right around the corner, I’m sure all of you are busy planning work and your upcoming vacay. Maybe you only have a day left before your time in the sun, or maybe you’re heading out to your summer stay in a week. Either way, it’s important to make sure you keep your motivation up during the summer season and we have listed our best tips to manage the transition between work and vacation.

Plan your vacation to keep your motivation

One of the biggest motivation thieves is daydreaming about what you’re going to get up to this vacation or simply this upcoming weekend. Whether it be planning a trip or just going to the museum, make sure you make it a note in your calendar. Take fifteen minutes to actually sit down and plan your free time. Not only will you have something to look forward to, but it will also help you stay focused on your work when it’s needed.

Take a break in the sun

When the weather is beautiful it can feel almost impossible to keep your eyes on the screen and let alone feel motivated. Make sure that you get your daily time in the sun during your breaks and maybe during lunch. Why not take a stroll around the area, or bring your colleagues and buy ice cream. Just a few extra minutes in the sun can really help boost your mood and give you the energy you need to stay motivated.

Swap out the coffee for water

We know, nothing beats the morning coffee. But you often don’t have to feel thirsty to be completely dehydrated. This is also of course more common during summer due to the heat. So make sure you always have a water bottle at hand and keep filling it up throughout the day. Coffee just tends to make you more dehydrated which in turn can really make you tired.

Plan your goals

Summer is the time to actually take your best tips and put them in action to stay motivated. Bring out your to-do list and plan your activities each day. It can be truly valuable to set clear goals you aim to achieve, no matter how big or small they may be. And thus you can avoid turning your workday into a complete puzzling mess which will be even harder to get through while sun the is out.

Skip sleeping in

Even it’s oh so tempting to sleep an extra hour while the birds are chirping outside. Summer is actually the perfect time for early morning. Try instead to wake up an hour earlier than you usually would and make sure you get outside for a walk or a run. A few extra minutes outside while the temperature is perfect can really help you stay motivated and productive. It may also feel like you get a little bit of vacation before each workday.

Stop multitasking

Even if you’re the self appointed master of multitasking, there’s a very few selected people that actually know how to do it well. And you may actually risk loosing your productivity along your speedy work. Instead try to focus on one thing at a time and close those thousands of tabs on your browser. Not only will this drain your focus, but it will probably destroy your computer in the long run. Focusing on one task at a time can instead help you stay motivated and may also help you stay calm while you focus on your tasks.

Give your self some more cred

Even if you’re not your most productive self during summer, don’t forget that it’s a challenge for most of us so don’t beat yourself up. This may actually be good time to reward yourself a little extra while focusing. Treat yourself to a nice lunch outside, or go see a movie on your weekend. Small rewards every now and then can really help you stay motivated and maybe even try splitting them up throughout tasks.
