Now the long-awaited auction, regarding the frequencies in the 5G network, has ended and four players won the campaign. After four bidding rounds, the frequencies have now been allocated and the work of expanding Sweden’s 5G network can begin.
One bidder, Teracom AB, won the entire 2.3 GHz band. Hi3G, Telia and Net4Mobility (consisting of Telenor and Tele2) together won the 3.5 GHz band.
At pts.se we can read PTS CEO Dan Sjöblom’s comment regarding the bidding.
“As these frequencies have now been allocated, there are conditions for strengthening the capacity for mobile broadband services and for the development of the Internet of Things in Sweden. The allocation will be central to Swedish 5G development. ”
Dstny is MVNO in Telenor’s network
We at Dstny are MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) in Telenor’s network and have been waiting with excitement for how the auction would go, as it ultimately affects what we can deliver to our corporate customers.
Telenor, together with Tele2, won 100 MHz in the 3.5 auction, a frequency that is theirs until 2045. Already at the beginning of October, 2020, Telenor began to launch 5G in Stockholm, where speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s, could achieved by their customers. Since then, 5G has been activated in many parts of the country, in a total of 36 cities.
“5G opens up fantastic opportunities in both short and long term, and the fact that Telenor has now acquired 100 MHz will be an opening for us to be able to deliver 5G to our customers by using their network,” says Andreas Callmar, product owner at Dstny.
